What is Monro?
Monro is virus-extortionist that was developed by the same people that are responsible for spreading infamous Dharma ransomware. In order to infiltrate victims’ computers, virus mostly uses scam emails containing malicious files and once the user opens this file, the encryption process starts. Monro ransomware may also be hidden in pirated software, games, cracks, phishing sites, and various fake updates (Adobe flash update). Following the successful penetration, the virus encodes most of the stored data, so the victim will not be able to use them until they are decrypted. To do so, the user is forced to pay a ransom. Our team recommends you not to pay anything since nobody can guarantee that they will fulfill their end of the bargain. The practice shows that cybercriminals just ignore people after payment is done. In this article, you can learn how to remove Monro ransomware and decrypt .monro files.
In order to encode victim’s data, Monro Ransomware uses AES encryption algorithm. Under this method, the private ID key required for data recovery is created during the encryption process. All affected files will be appended with “.id-[victim’s_ID].[firstname.lastname@example.org].monro” extension. For example, myfamily.jpg turns into myfamily.id-5C472I00.[email@example.com].monro. Once encryption process is done, it creates 2 files: Info.hta and FILES ENCRYPTED.txt. Both of them contain instructions on how to decrypt your files.
Here’s text from Monro pop-up window which is launched automatically (Info.hta):

You have to pay for decryption in Bitcoins. The price depends on how fast you write to us. After payment we will send you the decryption tool that will decrypt all your files.

Before paying you can send us up to 1 file for free decryption. The total size of files must be less than 1Mb (non archived), and files should not contain valuable information. (databases, backups, large excel sheets, etc.)
