What does .LOTEP stand for?
A few days ago many users had to face the new internet threat, that is called LOTEP ransomware. It’s easy to recognize, that your computer is infected with this virus, as it adds .LOTEP extensions to the names of the modified files. LOTEP ransomware belongs to the STOP(DJVU) file-encryption ransomware family, that is already well known because of such viruses, as PEEK, REDL, MKOS, NBES, GESD, RIGH, MERL, HETS, MSOP, ZOBM, ROTE, MBED, PEET, GROD, MOSK, TOEC, NAKW, Derp, COOT, Nols, Werd, Ndarod, Leto, Bora and RECO. In the most cases LOTEP ransomware attacks computers with the help of various subterfuges. The most widely used ones are fake emails and attachments. Hackers send emails as if they are from a well known company and attach a modified file to it. Once a potential victim decides to open it, the code of the virus, that is injected into this file, sneaks into the system.
